A MALAYSIAN couple filed a lawsuit against the police Friday seeking US$1.45 million (S$2.02 million) in damages, accusing them of being 'trigger happy' by shooting at them without warning during a car chase.
The case is a new blow to the Malaysian police force, which has come under heavy criticism after patrolmen fatally shot a 14-year-old boy when he allegedly refused to stop his car last month.
The civil lawsuit by Siti Nasrinda Sumirin, 23, and her husband, Mohamad Fauzi Mohamad Daud, 26, is the first legal action ever against Malaysia's 80,000-strong police force, whose image has been tainted by complaints of brutality and use of excessive force.
