how do you discipline your children?

my son has only just turned one year old, so i haven't really started on the disciplining part yet.

however i believe i'm of the old skool of thought "spare the rod and spoil the child".

but of course the intention here is not to abuse the child. i'm not like that to my loved ones and besides, there are laws against that.

so yeah, i wanna know how you keep your children in line. maybe there are better ways out there.
