AN UNEMPLOYED man was arrested at the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Avenue 8 on July 27 last year where he was found to be possession of a semi-automatic pistol which his friend, who was about to be arrested for drug offences, gave him a decade ago.
But despite the possible consequences, Low Hua Choon kept the pistol and in July last year, took the Colt M1991A1 - which contained five rounds of ammunition - on a run to sell smuggled contraband cigarettes.
These details emerged yesterday when the 41-year-old was convicted in a district court.
He faces a jail term of between five and 20 years and at least six strokes of the cane under the Arms Offences Act.
