HOW common are instances of cars catching fire here? On average, about six each month, going by figures in the last two years.
One driver was either very quick or very lucky last Wednesday. He escaped from his yellow Ferrari F430 Spider sports car just before it was engulfed in flames.
Witnesses saw the man, in his 20s, fleeing before the five-year-old car burst into flames. If the car was new, it would have cost about $800,000.
The incident occurred around noon at the Stamford Road and Victoria Street junction. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) put out the fire within 10 minutes.
